Artificial Intelligence Policy

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

The Journal of Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics, and Safety recognizes the increasing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in research and scholarly writing. This policy outlines the acceptable and responsible use of AI in manuscript preparation and submission.

Use of AI by Authors

  • Authors may use AI tools to assist with language editing, grammar correction, and improving readability.
  • Authors must ensure that all content generated or assisted by AI is accurate, original, and properly reviewed.
  • Authors are fully responsible for the content of their manuscript, including any portions assisted by AI tools.
  • AI tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors, as they cannot take responsibility for the work.

Disclosure Requirement

If AI tools were used in the preparation of the manuscript, authors must clearly disclose this in the manuscript, typically in the Acknowledgments or Methods section. The disclosure should include the name of the AI tool and how it was used.

Example disclosure:

  • "The authors used AI-assisted tools for language editing and grammar correction. The authors reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript."

Prohibited Uses

  • Using AI to generate fabricated data, results, or references
  • Using AI to produce misleading, plagiarized, or unethical content
  • Listing AI tools as authors

Use of AI by Reviewers and Editors

  • Reviewers and editors must not upload manuscripts or any part of them into AI tools that may compromise confidentiality.
  • All manuscripts under review must be treated as confidential documents.

Ethical Compliance

The journal follows international publication ethics standards. Any misuse of AI that violates ethical standards may result in manuscript rejection, correction, or retraction.

This policy ensures transparency, integrity, and accountability in the use of Artificial Intelligence in scholarly publishing.
