The Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Journal is committed to ensuring the long-term accessibility and preservation of all published scholarly content. We implement a robust digital preservation strategy to safeguard articles and metadata against loss, degradation, or technological obsolescence.

Preservation Methods

Our digital preservation approach includes:

  1. Digital Archiving with Trusted Repositories

    • All journal content is deposited and preserved in ARK (Archival Resource Key) system, ensuring persistent identifiers for permanent access.

    • Content is archived in CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS) and Portico, two leading digital preservation services that provide secure, distributed archiving.

    • Additional archiving through Garuda (Garba Rujukan Digital) and national repository systems.

  2. Redundant Storage Solutions

    • Multiple geographically distributed backups maintained in secure cloud and physical storage facilities.

    • Regular integrity checks and format migration protocols to ensure content remains accessible despite technological changes.

  3. Metadata Preservation

    • Comprehensive preservation of article metadata (Dublin Core, JATS XML) alongside full-text content.

    • Persistent identifiers (DOIs) assigned to all published articles through Crossref.

Access Guarantee

In the event the journal ceases publication or experiences technical disruption:

  • All archived content will remain accessible through our preservation partners (CLOCKSS, Portico)

  • Permanent URLs and DOIs will continue to resolve to preserved content

  • No "dark archives" – all preserved materials remain accessible to the global scholarly community

File Formats

We preserve content in multiple formats:

  • Primary: PDF/A (archival-standard PDF)

  • Supplementary: XML (JATS), HTML, and original submission formats when applicable

  • Metadata: OAI-PMH, Dublin Core, BibTeX

Responsibilities

  • Journal's Responsibility: Regular content deposition to preservation systems, maintenance of archival partnerships

  • Publisher's Role: Financial and technical support for preservation activities

  • Authors' Rights: Authors retain copyright while granting the journal non-exclusive preservation rights

Our preservation strategy complies with:

  • CoreTrustSeal requirements for trusted digital repositories

  • Journal best practices from DOAJ, COPE, and OASPA

  • National research repository standards (RISTEKDIKTI/BRIN)
