Aim and Scope
The Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Journal is a peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary academic publication dedicated to exploring and advancing the understanding of unity in diversity, both as a philosophical concept and a lived reality, with a primary focus on the Indonesian archipelago and its global connections.
Aim:
Our primary aim is to serve as a premier forum for rigorous scholarly inquiry into how diverse cultural systems coexist, interact, and synthesize. We seek to publish high-quality research that critically examines the dynamic interplay between cultural heritage and contemporary society, fostering dialogue that respects pluralism while investigating pathways to social cohesion, justice, and sustainable development.
Scope:
The journal welcomes theoretical, empirical, and applied research from a wide spectrum of disciplines. Contributions should engage deeply with cultural contexts, values, and practices. Key areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
-
Cultural & Interdisciplinary Studies: Multidisciplinary research on cultural phenomena, identity formation, cross-cultural communication, and the theoretical frameworks for understanding diversity.
-
Social Practice & Community Development: Studies in social work, community empowerment, and development strategies that are informed by, and respectful of, local cultural practices and indigenous wisdom.
-
History, Heritage & Memory: Historical inquiries, critical heritage studies, and memory work that uncover, preserve, and interpret cultural wisdom, traditions, and their evolution.
-
Language, Literature & Discourse: Research in linguistics, literature, folklore, and media that analyzes cultural narratives, meaning-making, and representation within diverse sociolinguistic contexts.
-
Law, Ethics & Human Rights: Examinations of legal pluralism, human rights discourses, customary law (hukum adat), and ethical frameworks situated within and negotiated across different cultural systems.
-
Arts, Performance & Media: Critical studies of visual arts, performing arts, digital media, and popular culture that are rooted in cultural values and offer distinct perspectives on society and identity.
-
Belief, Knowledge & Philosophy: Explorations of religious thought, philosophical traditions, indigenous knowledge systems (kearifan lokal), and their role in shaping worldviews, ethics, and social life.
The Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Journal is committed to publishing work that is not only academically excellent but also accessible and relevant to scholars, policymakers, educators, and community practitioners engaged in the vital project of building inclusive societies.
