Digital Preservation and Archiving Policy
Long-term accessibility, integrity, and continuity of scholarly content.
1. Preservation Objectives
- Protect the authenticity and integrity of published research.
- Maintain access to article files and bibliographic metadata.
- Preserve publication history, including corrections and retractions.
- Support continuity during technical interruptions or platform migration.
- Reduce the risk of permanent loss of scholarly content.
2. Current Archiving Arrangements
BEMO makes published articles available through its journal website and online issue archive, hosted on the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform.
Current status: BEMO has not yet activated an independent external long-term digital preservation service. Consequently, the journal does not claim participation in LOCKSS, CLOCKSS, PKP Preservation Network, or any equivalent preservation program.
The public OJS archive provides access to published content but should not be considered equivalent to independent preservation.
3. Backup and Recovery Responsibilities
The publisher and journal management should establish documented arrangements for backing up article files, database records, metadata, and platform configuration. Backup frequency, storage locations, access controls, and restoration procedures should be defined in operational documentation.
Any backup system described publicly as operational must be supported by verifiable implementation records.
4. External Digital Preservation Plan
BEMO intends to evaluate recognized long-term preservation services, including services compatible with OJS. Selection will consider technical compatibility, preservation coverage, sustainability, and the ability to provide continued access if the journal or publisher ceases operation.
When an external service becomes operational, the journal will update this policy to identify the service and its coverage.
5. Author Self-Archiving
Authors may deposit their articles in institutional or disciplinary repositories according to the journal's applicable copyright and open-access license, with proper attribution and a reference to the published version.
6. Publication Continuity
In the event of platform migration, publisher transition, or journal discontinuation, the publisher and editorial management should take reasonable steps to preserve existing publication records and communicate the location of accessible archived content.
